Ariel was born in Brussa, Turkey. At the age of nine he witnessed the Turkish Massacre and the death of his father. In 1937 he came to America for a showing. He brought many of his favorite paintings with him and sadly left the majority of his works behind in his Paris studio.  He continued to paint for his livelihood, yet changed his medium and subject matter to mostly religious while living in America.   He has produced many portraits, large “tableaux? and also large and small works on all subjects.

During his artistic career in Europe he received two Gold Medals in art, from the “Association Artistiques? in Venice and  the “Artistes Critiques? in Paris.  His paintings are widely exhibited in Paris, Vienna, Venice and Milan.  His works have adorned Catholic churches in Paris, Severes, and Arnouville, and the St. Nicholas of Tollentine Seminary in Rome. In America, his works are in the Boston,  Philadelphia, and New York City area.

He is most known for the “Face of Christ,? which he painted in 1935 and is considered the most exact positive image from the negative image, The Shroud of Turin.

His daughter, Annig and her husband, Howard Raley currently reside in Colorado, USA and are curators of his personal collection.  Most of his works are on display throughout France and Italy.  The artist's grandchildren, RitaHoward and Ariella have inherited their grandfather's creativity and love of literature.
